The 'Bust of a Youth' recalls an idealized Roman head (117–161 CE) from the Met x Eichholtz collection, sculpted during the Hadrianic or Early Antonine periods.The polished flesh, sharply defined eyes, and intricate locks of hair characterizing the original likeness were all typical features of bronze sculptures that were imitated in marble as part of the classist taste that prevailed during the reign of the emperor Hadrian in the early 2nd century CE.
