Originally made for Yoruba royalty, this chair is slow to come into being, often taking months to complete. Artisans hand-stitch thousands of glass beads onto the fabric, sometimes repurposed cocoa sacks, before mounting the panels onto cane frames. The visual language has shifted over time. Earlier, pieces carried narrative scenes, animals, and symbolic figures, while recent works lean more into botanical and geometric compositions that sit comfortably in contemporary spaces. Beadwork itself travels across communities, reflecting a shared and evolving cultural vocabulary.

"Art and design are about emotions, and rarely about trends. If you feel a connection to something, pause. If it evokes joy, it’s meant for you."
- Astha Khetan, Founder, The House of Things
To celebrate the launch of The House of Things Gallery, a group of 30+ eclectic visionaries from India and across the world created bespoke objects of design bringing alive their unique vision of ‘An Udaipur Sojourn’ as an ode to the heritage and artistry of the land. From art furniture and bespoke design objects to heritage textiles and sculptural lighting, each piece carries a story of modern luxury – whether it’s the precision of an artist’s handcraft or the brilliance of a finely-cut gemstone.
