Chester's India

Chester’s origins lie in the vision of MV Ramaswamy and his relationship with leather. In 1986, he built a business processing high-quality leather goods for export from India, earning a reputation across Europe. Drawn to the elegant forms of 19th-century European furniture, Ramaswamy was inspired to bring this traditional craft back to Bangalore, exploring it within an Indian context.

In 1994, he sent four of his most experienced craftsmen to the Netherlands, where they refined their skills in the specialist manufacture of deep-buttoned leather furniture. Chester's was born from this exchange of knowledge and craftsmanship. Today, his sons, Ashwin and Ananth Ramaswamy, helm the company, continuing their father's commitment to enduring craftsmanship, material integrity, and timeless design. Under their leadership, Chester’s has evolved from a specialist maker of fine leather furniture into one of India’s most respected luxury furniture houses, while remaining deeply rooted in the values on which it was founded.
